1. MUSIC
Rhythm, cadence, karaoke, and building homemade musical instruments
Relaxation, Math, spatial ability
- ACTING
Mimicking activities, facial expressions, dance, varying moods or emotions
Expression of emotion, self-control
- NATURE
Walk in the woods, visit a pond, collect items, and take photos for discussion
Lack of fear in unfamiliar surroundings, different forms of life, observe change
- FAMILY
Use family and photos to tell short stories. Repeat over time.
Identify, appreciate and connect with diverse family members
- LIBRARY
Build Dad’s library and child’s library. Take turns selecting favorites from both.
Ownership, care of books, and dad can model his academic side.
- COOK
Select and purchase items, measure, count, mix, cook, set table, serve, eat, talk.
Food preparation, math, science, count, temperature, nutrition, planning, creating something
- EXERCISE
Plan, diagram, time, count, log and change locations
Establish importance and value, math, body parts, health
- VOLUNTEER
Shovel snow from hydrant, clean snow off neighbor’s car, sweep, rake.
Self-worth, give back, empathy, sense of community
- THANK YOU
Make dinner for Mom; make get well, birthday, thank you cards, and phone calls
Sympathy, empathy, gratefulness, thoughtfulness, emotion
- BUILD
Find something that needs to be assembled and do it together.
Small project over time, patience, planning, each contributes to finished product, pride, self-esteem, history.
